Guru Ratna 2026 is a National & Global Educators Excellence Award that recognizes teachers for their contributions to education, character-building, and nation-building.
The name carries deep meaning. “Guru” means teacher, mentor, and guide. “Ratna” means jewel or precious gem. Together, Guru Ratna honors educators as precious guides whose knowledge and wisdom dispel darkness and illuminate the lives of others.
In honor of the more than ten million school teachers serving across India, Adv. Peeyush Pandit selected 201 educators as a gesture of respect for those who dedicate their lives to shaping the next generation.
Why Is Teachers’ Day Celebrated in September in India?
India celebrates Teachers’ Day every year in September on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan — scholar, philosopher, educator, and the second President of India.
The tradition began in 1962. When people wished to celebrate his birthday, Dr. Radhakrishnan asked that the day instead be dedicated to honoring teachers across the nation. He believed the role of teachers was more important than personal recognition.
