BEIJING, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The international communication documentary The Long March: A Road Without End is produced under the guidance of the China International Communications Group (CICG), and jointly produced by the CICG Center for Europe and Asia (China Pictorial Publications), the Museum of the Communist Party of China, the Xuexi Qiangguo learning platform, and publicity departments, television stations and other institutions in provinces along the Long March route.

2026 marks the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March by the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. The documentary explores three central questions in depth: What were the people who walked this road 90 years ago thinking? Is the idealism of 90 years ago still alive today? And what kind of enduring spiritual strength can this extraordinary journey in human history offer the world today?

The documentary takes the “road” as its central thread and the “heart” as its inner dimension. William N. Brown, a recipient of the Chinese Government Friendship Award and an American professor at Xiamen University, and Peng Wanglong, a young European media professional, serve as walkers and observers. Together, they retrace the Long March, while also embarking on a journey of the spirit, a journey of development, and a journey of shared human experience. Over two months, the production team traveled across Jiangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Ningxia, Shaanxi and Henan, all provinces and regions along the Long March route. They ventured to high plateaus, deep valleys, riverbanks and rural fields, measuring history step by step and capturing the spirit of the Long March through the camera. As they retraced the route, they uncovered stories from the depths of history and documented milestones in the struggles of the “new Long March” in the new era.

The seven-episode documentary uses seven distilled images, “river, lamp, bridge, road, mountain, tree and flower,” to create a “map of spiritual imagery” that translates the sweep of history into experiences shared by people everywhere. The journey begins at the Yudu River, tracing the origins of the Long March. The light of ideals and faith illuminates the road ahead. Bridges linking history with the present connect the past and the present. The documentary records exploration and struggle along the road of the new Long March, pays tribute to those who came before through the determination to overcome hardship, and ultimately arrives at a place where the spirit is in full bloom. Through walking and dialogue, these images allow the core values of the road, resilience, trust, cooperation and hope, to emerge naturally. They enable audiences in China and around the world, especially younger generations, not only to understand the Long March, but also to understand how China came to forge this long road of its own.
