Renovexus, a kitchen and bath directory, has published free contractor license checks for businesses in Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and Philadelphia, and six step-by-step contractor license lookup guides covering those markets, Georgia and Washington, D.C. Where an official record is found, the business’s Renovexus profile shows the license number, the date it was checked and a link to the official lookup, so a homeowner can confirm the license before hiring.
More information is available at renovexus.com.
The checks use Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation records, Maryland Home Improvement Commission licenses and New Jersey home improvement contractor registrations. In Philadelphia, they use City of Philadelphia contractor licenses rather than state records. Renovexus does not yet show license records for businesses in Georgia or the District of Columbia, where its guides and town pages point homeowners to the official lookup instead. Because matching is still incomplete, a business with no license record on its profile may still be licensed.
The phrase contractor license lookup alone draws an estimated 9,900 searches a month in the United States, according to Google Ads data retrieved from DataForSEO on Oct. 25, 2026. The Virginia license guide, one of the six, sets out four steps, explains what to do when a contractor cannot be found and links to the state’s license search and the Virginia attorney general’s consumer protection office. Every guide links to the official lookup for its market and to the office that handles complaints about contractors.

All 1,471 Renovexus town pages link to the official license lookup and the consumer complaint office. Where Renovexus found them, town pages also link to the local building or construction code office, on 456 pages, and to the town or county website, plus a permit guide where one has been published for that market.
On each town page, Renovexus orders businesses by a public score explained on its verification page. A matched, active license is worth 30 of the score’s 100 points; the other 70 come from the business’s rating and reviews on Google, a website that confirms the service and profile completeness. Ratings and review counts on Google are shown as of the month they were read, mostly September 2026. Paid Featured spots are labeled as ads and never change a score or rank.
A business with an active license record can put a License Verified badge on its own website; the badge links back to the profile that lists the license number and check date. Business owners can claim their profiles at no cost to add photos and projects and to reply to reviews. A homeowner’s request through Renovexus goes to the one business the homeowner chose and is never sold to a list of contractors.
